I wonder about the need to change to Somena. Samara seems to be the classical name; is Somena much used? Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 20:43, 4 Octobris 2007 (UTC)
- That was because of Graesse's preference for Somena and its relation to the modern French word. I have moved it back now, however, since all of the sources point at Samara including Deschamps, who obviously knew his French geography. Harrissimo.
- Why Graesse prefers that form, goodness knows! Thanks for changing again so quickly -- Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 20:52, 4 Octobris 2007 (UTC)
- I think I was wrong now. "Samara" is not really the classical form -- it is a later reconstruction based on the name "Samarobriva". See Valesius. However, it is quite commonly used by more recent sources, as the footnotes show. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 19:10, 30 Iunii 2019 (UTC)
