Lingua Bengalica[1] (litteris Bengalicis বাঙ্গালী) seu Bengalensis, etiam endonymo Bangla (বাংলা, Bāṅlā) tantum appellata, est lingua Indoeuropaea,[2] Sanscritae et Pracriticarum linguarum progenies ac lingua franca in Bengalensi subcontinentis Indicae regione adhibita. Quae praeterea est lingua latissime in Bangladesa audita et secunda a maxima lingua ex viginti duabus sermonibus publicis in India rite enumeratis, post linguam Hindicam; in Bangladesia et in Bengalia Occidentali, civitate Indica, praecipue adhibetur. Sermo patrius hominum 228 fere millionum et sermo secundus hominum 37 fere millionum est.[3][4]
