Disputatio:Nationes Unitae
Appearance
- Gratias ago. (That means "Unio Europaea" should also be moved.) What about "United Nations"? "Consortio nationum"? --Alex1011 12:49, 12 Ianuarii 2007 (UTC)
- The queen's proclamation above may imply that the best Latin for the United Nations should include a form of Populi (and not of Nationes), perhaps Populi Consociati or Populi Socii. Such a form would have the advantage of including those entities that aren't formally "nations" but still have some sort of official UN recognition and participate in various UN-sponsored activities. I'm surprised at how little the United Nations Organization is mentioned in Neo-Latin reference books. It's not in PONS, it's not in Calepinus Novus, it's not in Lexicon Nominum Locorum. Even Morgan only gives:
628 United Nations: League of Nations Natiônum Societas ,,1) 628 United Nations: Security Council consilium securitati tuendae (Egger S.L. 62)
...which isn't that helpful. I guess the place to look would be the various Nuntii Latini, and Latin periodicals (especially Latinitas, which has a current events section). --Iustinus 16:54, 12 Ianuarii 2007 (UTC)
- Ephemeris uses "Ordo Nationum Unitarum" and the abbreviation "ONU" (e.g. here), while the Finnish Nuntii Latini just has "Nationes Unitae" (e.g.), as do the Bremenses [1]. —Myces Tiberinus 14:08, 13 Ianuarii 2007 (UTC)
- Etiam Caelestis Eichenseer et Sigrides Albert in Voce Latina simpliciter "secretarium generalem Nationum Unitarum Kofi Annan" habent. --Alex1011 21:35, 15 Ianuarii 2007 (UTC)
