[fontem recensere]Mihi videtur nomen proprium "spatium" esse (vide citationes, et cf. vicipaedias Francogallicam et Italianam). Fontes locutionis "spatium exterius" iam frustra postulavimus. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 16:21, 15 Augusti 2011 (UTC)
- But then what's to be done with international law on this subject, governed by the
- Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies
- tratado en los principios de la gobernanza de las actividades de las naciones en la exploración y uso del espacio exterior, incluyendo a la luna u otros cuerpos celestes,
- traité sur les principes régissant les activités des États en matière d'exploration et d'utilisation de l'espace extra-atmosphérique, y compris la Lune et les autres corps célestes

- I think we'd still have to use spatium exterius in those cases. Pantocrator 10:23, 16 Augusti 2011 (UTC)
- The French and Italian wikis don't seem to see it as a problem affecting this page: I don't either. To translate the name of that treaty literally, we'd have to decide anyway which language we were translating from! Having decided, we would go with the English and Spanish texts and do as Pantocrator says (that's assuming we consider "spatium exterius" sufficiently clear in Latin) or we would go with the French and Italian texts, which would give something a little more explicit like "spatium extra atmosphaeram" or "spatium extra-atmosphaericum". - Is it acceptable to add to this article the option of aethera siderea, shortened as aethera? I have seen it used in two dictionaries (online-latin-dictionary.com and neolatinlexicon.org) and think it is fitting as an option, since the ancients did consider that what was beyond the atmosphere was aether, even if they understood it differently. - Note the need to keep things simple, especially in the first sentence :) But, having noted that, if you cite those two sources, it seems to me reasonable to add "aethera siderea" as a second lemma. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 15:54, 31 Maii 2020 (UTC)
