Babel
[fontem recensere]I reverted your changes to the Babel formula because they made a mess of existing userpages. Of course, your work isn't lost -- if you want to perfect it --: it's saved in the history. Perhaps you'd like to explain what you want to do? The words "This user cannot read or write any languages. Assistance is required." sound like a joke in poor taste, unless you also have a suggestion for how we are to help those people.
- [Added later:] You need to know also that existing formula {{Babel-X}} depends on formula {{Babel}}. So, if you change anything on Babel, you must afterwards check userpages linked to Babel and to Babel-X to make sure your changes haven't had a bad effect. I am endeavoring to add, from the instructions included on the English Babel set, the complete set of Babel forms, as they did not exist in the Latin version, and did not (seem to?) conform to the international standard. I cannot see a way of adding them in one complete go, alas... perhaps I should have started with a bottom-up instead of a top-down approach? The "user cannot read... etc", is the literal copy of the english Babel form, as described in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Babel . I am just following the instructions found there under "How to get Babel boxes to work on other Wikipedias"...

- Thanks for the explanation. That sounds like a good idea (though personally I don't think the English message is very amusing!) The real problem is that we already have a Babel box which works in a certain way ... Maybe you could give yours a different name (e.g. Formula:Babel-Y) or maybe you should ask UV for help. He understands formulae much better than I do. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 14:44, 11 Novembris 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for your kind answer. Perhaps we could just make this just a simple redirect? It would be ideal if the Babel boxes behaved the same in every Wikipedia. Bonicolli 14:51, 11 Novembris 2007 (UTC)
- I guess whoever wrote that instruction on the English Wikipedia did not consider the case that other Wikipedias may have a Babel template already!
- I agree with the principle of unifying them. But it seems you still have to copy all the boxes over from one Wikipedia to another, so the advantage is not very striking ... The main thing, after any changes, is just to make sure (by using the link "Nexus ad paginam") that existing userpages still work properly. Andrew Dalby (disputatio) 15:17, 11 Novembris 2007 (UTC)

The template en:Template:Babel corresponds to our Formula:Babel-X. It would be a good idea to move our Formula:Babel-X to Formula:Babel for consistency with the other wikipedias. However, we need to make sure beforehand that no user page still links to our current Formula:Babel, or we will break the appearance of those user pages. The current list at Special:Whatlinkshere/Formula:Babel is not up to date, so we will need to wait until tomorrow or so when the list will have been refreshed, then fix the remaining items on that list. Only then, we can safely move Formula:Babel-X to Formula:Babel. Greetings, --UV 17:05, 11 Novembris 2007 (UTC)
- All done! --UV 00:27, 12 Novembris 2007 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
[fontem recensere]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Bonicolli. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Bonicolli~lawiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
