Fagaceae (nomen botanicum a Bartholomaeo du Mortier statutum) est familia arborum fruticumque ordinis Fagalium quae octo genera et fere 927 species comprehendit,[2] inter quas sunt castaneae, fagi, ac quercus. Fagaceae aut sempervirentes aut deciduae esse possunt; habent folia alternata simplicia venatione pinnata, flores unisexuales amentaceos, ac fructus, qui sunt nuces, cupuliformes.
